Tá réimse tionscadal ar na bacáin ag An Droichead agus dar linn go dtabharfaidh gach ceann acu muid i dtreo úr. Tá muid anois ag freastal ar níos mó riachtanais phobail ná riamh, agus tá muid ag forbairt deiseanna nuálaíocha úra a ligfidh do dhaoine ag gach aois agus ó gach cúlra dul i dtaithí le gníomhaíochtaí Gaeilge agus gaelchultúir.
Is iad seo cuid de na rudaí a bheas le feiceáil sna míonna beaga romhainn:
- Gairdín bitheolaíochta agus spás pobail úir An Droichead. D’éirigh linn tacaíocht a fháil ó roinnt eagraíochtaí agus maoinitheoirí (BRO, Awards For All, Groundworks NI, NI Environment Agency agus Translink ina measc) chun píosa talaimh dhearóil ag cúl ár suímh a athrú le bheith ina spás úr foghlama agus súgartha do pháistí inár scoil. De bharr an méid tacaíochta a fuair muid beidh muid ábalta spás pobail ar leith a chruthú fosta, agus beidh fáil ag an phobal ar an ghairdín ag amanna áirithe i rith na seachtaine. Coinnigh súil ar an roinn seo fá choinne nuashonruithe ar an obair, rud ata le toiseacht go luath i 2009.
- Féile ‘ceoil thraidisiúnta’ an tsamhraidh leis An Droichead. Éacht eile d’An Droichead – beidh féile ceoil s’againn ag tógáil ar ár gcumas aitheanta chun an tallann traidisiúnta is fearr in Éirinn agus Albain a mhealladh chuig Deisceart Bhéal Feirste. Feic an leathanach imeachtaí le tuilleadh sonraí a fháil. Ba mhaith linn fosta spás léirithe a fhorbairt chun freastal ar an éileamh mór atá ar shainbhranda An Droichead de shiamsaíocht cheoil thraidisiúnta. Tá muid anois ag plé dóigheanna chun an sprioc seo a bhaint amach sa mheántréimhse.
- Seomra comhdhála agus traenála an Droichead. Fá láthair, níl seomraí comhdhála ardteicniúla saintógtha ar bith do phobal na Gaeilge i mBéal Feirste. Is í aidhm s’againne seo a chur ar fáil. Tá pleananna críochnúla againn chun an spás úr tiomnaithe seo a thógáil idir an ghearrthréimhse agus an mheántréimhse. Mar sin de, má thig linn constaicí maoinithe a shárú, tá gach seans go mbeidh na tógálaithe le feiceáil ar an suíomh roimh i bhfad.
- Gréasán Turasóireachta Cultúrtha An Droichead. D’éirigh linn, in éineacht le cuibhreannas grúpaí ar fud Chúige Uladh agus in Albain, d’éirigh linn maoiniú Eorpach a fháil chun gréasán leathan turasóireachta cultúrtha a chruthú, rud a thabharfaidh acmhainní móra isteach chuig earnáil na Gaeilge. Bunófar dhá phost lán-aimseartha úra ag An Droichead mar chuid den ghréasán, chun cúrsaí traenála sa thurasóireacht chultúrtha a fhorbairt chomh maith le háiseanna ar líne den scoth – méadóidh seo uilig acmhainneacht turasóireachta ár gceantair go mór.
- Ionad Gnó agus Baile Cultúir An Droichead. Ta pleananna againn fosta le hionad nua a fhorbairt a bheas mar fhócas do chúrsaí cultúir agus eacnamaíochta in Ionchathair Dheisceart Bhéal Feirste agus a thacóidh le fás an gheilleagair shóisialta Ghaeilge. Coinnigh súil ar an spás seo…

Future
An Droichead currently has a range of projects in the pipeline that each see us branching out in a new direction. We are now meeting more community needs than ever, and developing new and innovative ways for people from all ages and backgrounds to get involved in Irish language and cultural activities.
Here are some of the things to watch out for in the coming months:
- An Droichead’s new biodiversity garden and community space. We gained the support of a number of organisations and funders, including B.R.O., Awards For All, Groundworks NI, NI Environment Agency and Translink, in order to develop a derelict piece of land at the rear of our site in to a new learning and play space for the children in our school. The level of support we have received will allow us to create a new community space also, and the garden will be accessible to the general public at certain times throughout the week. Keep an eye on this section for updates on the work, due to commence early in 2009.
- An Droichead’s summer traditional music festival. Another first – our music festival will build on our reputation for attracting the best of Irish and Scottish traditional talent to South Belfast. See the events page for more details. We also want to develop a new performance space that can meet the growing demand for An Droichead’s unique brand of traditional musical entertainment, and we have begun discussing the ways in which we can make this a reality in the medium term.
- An Droichead’s conference and training suite. There are currently no high-tech, purpose-built conference suites for the Irish language community in Belfast. We aim to provide this. We have very well developed plans to build this new dedicated space in the short-to-medium term and, funding-permitting, we could see the builders on site before long.
- An Droichead’s Cultural Tourism Network. We have been successful with a consortium of other cultural groups across Ulster and Scotland in securing European funding to create a major cultural tourism network that will deliver significant resources to the Irish language sector. The network, which will see two new full-time posts established at An Droichead, will develop training courses in cultural tourism as well as top-class online resources that will greatly increase the tourism potential of our area.
- An Droichead’s Cultural Village & Enterprise Centre. We have plans also to develop a new centre that will be a hub of cultural and economic activity in inner-city South Belfast and will support the growth of the Irish language social economy. Watch this space
