Ceol Beo:
Tá An Droichead i ndiaidh clú a tharraingt air féin le bliain go leith anuas mar an príomh ionad ceoil thraidisiúnta i ndeisceart Bhéal Feirste. Chuaigh an scéal sin ar fud Béal Feirste agus níos faide anonn; rud a chuidigh linn na ceoltóirí b’fhearr i gcóngar agus i gcéin a mhealladh chuig an lárionad seo. Lóchranna ceiliúrtha atá sna coirmeacha ceoil abhus anseo sa lárionad. Bíonn atmaisféar ar leith ann agus is minic cuairteoirí nua ag déanamh tagairt dó ar theacht anseo den chéad uair agus sin ceann de na cúiseanna gur minic a bhíonn na seóanna díolta amach. Tá a fhios ag idir thionscnóirí agus ealaíontóirí go mbeidh lán tí ann agus lucht éisteachta i láthair atá eolach agus tuisceanach ar an cheol agus cuireann sin ar ár gcumas ealaíontóirí traidisiúnta den scoth a mhealladh go deisceart Bhéal Feirste, mar atá Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh de chuid Altan, Julie Fowlis agus John Spillane agus daoine eile nach iad.
Gné eile d’oícheanna na gcoirmeacha ceoil go dtugtar seans do cheoltoirí óga áitiúla bheith ag gabhail ceoil os comhair lucht éisteachta. Cúis áthais dúinn seans a thabhairt don chéad ghlún eile an stáitse a roinnt leis na réalta agus dul i ngleic phearsanta leo.
Dé Sathairn 5 Meitheamh 2010, Declan Ó Rourke le haoicheoltóir Ben Glover
Ní raibh an scéal amuigh ar Declan Ó Rourke le fada. Réalta rúnda na hÉireann a bhí insa cheoltóir iontach seo go dtí gur thosaigh a chéad albam, “Since Kyabram” ag saothrú léirmheasanna den scoth, ag fás lucht éisteachta idirnáisiúnta, agus ag cothú lucht tacaíochta dílis a bhfuil a leithéidí Paul Weller, Snow patrol agus Kate Rusby ina measc.
Ar eisiúint an albaim in Éirinn, bhain “Since Kyabram” stádas platanam faoi dhó chomh maith le duais na hirise Hot Press ‘Céad Albam is Fearr’. Tháinig conradh mór taifeadta le V2 agus conradh foilsithe le BMG ina dhiaidh sin, chomh maith le comhluadar óna chomhghleacaithe: fuair sé cuirí chun seinm mar thacaíocht do Snow Patrol ag Páirc Mharlaí i mBaile Átha Cliath, Teddy Thompson ar a thuras sa Bhreatain, The Divine Comedy ar dhátaí áirithe sa Ghearmáin agus sa Bhreatain, agus fiú chun seinm ag an chlub clúiteach 100 Club, ar iarratas ó Paul Weller.
Tá an scéal amuigh anois, agus níos mó daoine ag caint i rith ama fán ghuth seo nach bhfuil a mhacasamhail ann, agus a amhráin simplí álainn. Baineann liricí Declan le gnéithe uilig an duine. Díríonn a hamhráin isteach ar ghnáth-mhothúcháin achan lae, agus tarraingíonn a ghuth an éisteoir. Tá draíocht chiúin agus gliceas sa stíl aige a chuireann sonas agus suaimhneas ar lucht éisteachta bíodh siad ina ghrúpa beag bídeach nó ina slua de mhílte.

Live Music:
Over the past year and a half An Droichead has quickly and professionally established itself as the premier traditional music venue in South Belfast. Moreover, this is a reputation that has travelled throughout Belfast and beyond; one which has granted us access to the very finest of international and local traditional music talent. Concert nights are a beacon of musical celebration here at the Lárionad. The atmosphere is always commented upon by our first time visitors, and is one of the reasons that our concert nights are now regularly sold out. The fact that promoters and artists alike are aware that they will play to a full house and to an appreciative and knowledgeable audience enables us to attract the cream of traditional artists to south Belfast e.g. Maireád Ní Mhaonaigh of Altan , Julie Fowlis and John Spillane to name but a few.
Another feature of concert nights at An Droichead is the showcasing of young local talent. We are delighted to provide a chance for the next generation of musicians to share the stage and engage with their peers.
Saturday 5th June 2010, Declan Ó Rourke with special guest Ben Glover in concert.
“Singing in a velvet-tinged bartitone with a killer falsetto….it’s a rare gift that his music can bear comparison with so many classic era troubadours, Fred Neil, Jackson Browne and Bruce Springsteen while still sounding so completely original” Nigel Williamson, Uncut
Declan O’Rourke used to be one of Ireland’s best kept secrets, but rave reviews for his debut album ‘Since Kyabram’, a growing international fanbase and an enviable collection of eminent devotees, including Paul Weller, Snow Patrol and Kate Rusby, are rapidly changing that.
On its release in Ireland, ‘Since Kyabram’ reached double platinum status and garnered Hot Press magazine’s ‘Best Debut Album’ award. A major record deal with V2 and a publishing deal with BMG followed, as did patronage from his peers – invitations to support Snow Patrol at Marlay Park in Dublin, Teddy Thompson on his British tour, The Divine Comedy for dates in Germany and Britain, and to perform at the legendary 100 Club at the request of Paul Weller.
The buzz is growing, based on the simplicity of great songs and a unique voice. Declan’s lyrics touch on all aspects of the individual, his songs focus on the centre of everyday emotions and his voice irresistibly draws the listener in. He has an understated charm, a quick-wittedness that make him highly endearing live and equally at home playing to one person as he is to thousands.

a chara,
Anmarie O’Riordan was recently brought to my attention and I think she’d be perfect for a night at an Droichead.
