(ENGLISH BELOW)

Tá An Droichead ag treabhadh linn mar cheanncheathrú na Gaeilge do dheisceart agus oirthear Bhéal Feirste, ag cruthú deiseanna d’fhoghlaim na Gaeilge agus deiseanna sóisialta dóibh siúd a bhaineann taitneamh as gnéithe éagsúla shaol na Gaeilge. Tá lárionad den scoth againn atá mar fhócas sa taobh seo de Bhéal Feirste d’achan rud a bhaineann leis an Ghaeilge agus le cultúr & oidhreacht na hÉireann.

Tá clár níos leithne ná riamh againn de ranganna den scoth sa teanga, ceol, scríbhneoireacht, snoíodóireacht, péinteáil agus damhsa. Cuireann muid fáilte roimh chách teacht chun fíor chultúr beo Gaelach na hÉireann a bhlaiseadh.

Tá réimse d’imeachtaí againn a dhéanann freastal ar gach aoisghrúpa: idir cheol agus dhrámaí, chainteanna agus cheardlanna, scannánaíocht agus thaispeántais. Gan amhras, tá an foirgneamh ag cur thar maoil le beocht, imeachtaí agus scoth an chultúir Ghaelaigh.

I gclár seo an Earraigh tá muid ag cur béime ar leith ar cheoltóirí óga agus nua, go háirithe leis an sraith cheolchoirmeacha atá beartaithe. Tá súil againn go gcuirfidh seo le beocht agus le héagsúlacht an chláir, agus go dtabharfaidh sé deis don tallann Éireannach is úire ceird s’acu a chleachtadh ar ardán atá ar na hardáin is mó clú sa cheol traidisiúnta faoi láthair.

An Droichead is ploughing ahead as the Irish language and cultural Headquarters of south & east Belfast, creating opportunities to learn Irish and social opportunities for those who enjoy the many other aspects of Irish cultural life. We have our fabulous lárionad (centre) that remains the focus for everything to do with Ireland’s language, culture and heritage in this part of Belfast.

We present here a programme with a broader than ever range of top quality classes in language, music, writing, carving, painting and dance. It invites everyone to come and get a taste of Irish culture as it really is, alive and kicking, and free to be enjoyed by anyone.

As always we have events and activities offering enjoyment to all age groups in music , drama, talks and workshops, films and exhibitions. Without a doubt, An Droichead is a hive of activity – Irish culture at its very best.

In this spring programme we decided to give prominence to young and new musicians, especially in the series of concerts planned. We hope this will enhance the vitality and diversity of the programme, and give Ireland’s newest talents the chance to practice their craft on a stage that is one of the most talked about in traditional music at present.

Tá lúcháir ar An Droichead bheith ina chomhpháirtí san fhéile iontach seo i 2012. Thar dheireadh seachtaine i mí Aibreáin beidh scannáin den scoth ar taispeáint achan oíche agus pléifear iad go dátheangach leis na stiúrthóirí féin.

The 13th Irish Latin American Film Festival 2012

“Latin America, in short films and documentaries, will once again be accessible to audiences in Belfast, Dublin and selected screenings at other locations in April. Admission is free but the screenings spaces are small and attendees are requested to arrive in time for the screenings.

The bilingual Festival is once again presented in our indigenous language, Irish with back-up in English. Consequently, its programming at An Droichead is logical and overdue. In 2011, Guariní, Quechua and Mapuche featured. For this Festival, there will be the opportunity to hear Wayúu, an indigenous language in north east Colombia and Venezuela. A new section this year is Country Focus. Brazil will feature with Samba agus craic, This is the carnival of overcoming, Vestígios pre históricos no cariri Paraibano and Cairde i gCéin. The Festival coincides with Latin America Week [www.lasc.ie] with the theme of food sovereignty. The closing documentary is Growing Change, an inspiring example of the Bolivarian process towards food sovereignty in Venezuela. Finally, a special welcome to Filmmakers associated with films programmed in the Festival who will be in attendance.

Once again, sincere gratitude to all the filmmakers and producers that makes up the content of this Festival for their goodwill and gracious co-operation in getting the programme together for 2012.”

With limited resources; one car, four radios, two old desks, and a typewriter, Jimenez and his team overcome limitations to capture the most wanted Latin American terrorist in September 1992. Off-screen and with complete honesty, Cubans tell us about their idea of freedom. “It is a lie I have repeated so often, I have started to believe it: I am free.” They are very well aware of the restrictions placed on them as human beings: “I can do whatever I want, but only within a clearly defined context, place and time.
Declan O’Rourke & Band in concert

Dé hAoine 3 Meitheamh 2011 – Friday 3 June 2011

Ionad/Venue: The Errigle Inn,

Doirse/Doors: 7.30 – Ticéad/ Tickets: £15.00

Declan O’Rourke used to be one of Ireland’s best kept secrets, but rave reviews for his debut album ‘Since Kyabram’, a growing international fanbase and an enviable collection of eminent devotees, including Paul Weller, Snow Patrol and Kate Rusby, are rapidly changing that.
On its release in Ireland, ‘Since Kyabram’ reached double platinum status and garnered Hot Press magazine’s ‘Best Debut Album’ award. A major record deal with V2 and a publishing deal with BMG followed, as did patronage from his peers – invitations to support Snow Patrol at Marlay Park in Dublin, Teddy Thompson on his UK tour, The Divine Comedy for dates in Germany and the U.K., and to perform at the legendary 100 Club at the request of Paul Weller.
The buzz is growing, based on the simplicity of great songs and a unique voice. Declan’s lyrics touch on all aspects of the individual, his songs focus on the centre of everyday emotions and his voice irresistibly draws the listener in. He has an understated charm, a quick-wittedness that make him highly endearing live and equally at home playing to one person as he is to thousands.
Declan’s new album ‘Mag Pai Zai’ goes on general release from all major record stores, including HMV, Tescos and Golden Discs, and for digital download from iTunes and Amazon, from FRIDAY 8th APRIL

D’fhéadfaí a rá gurb iad an díséad is fuinniúla i gceol Ceilteach an lae inniu iad an dísreach Albanach/Éireannach Ross Ainslie agus Jarlath Henderson a raibh ardmholtaí tugtha dóibh as a gcéad albam, Partners in Crime, agus as a dtaibhithe beo spreagúla iontacha.
Thosaigh Ross Ainslie & Jarlath Henderson ag seinm le chéile in 2003 ag Féile Píobaireachta William Kennedy agus ó shin, tháinig siad le chéile chun fuaim phíobaireachta a chumadh a chuireann siar na teorainneacha is féidir leis an dá uirlis baint
amach le chéile.
Is Curadh uile-Eireann Phíb Uilleann faoi trí é Jarlath agus níl sé ach 19 bliain d’aois. I mí na Nollag 2003 ba é an chéad cheoltóir Éireannach é a bhain an príomhghradam náisiúnta mórshuntasach BBC ‘Young Folk Musician Of The Year’. Is as Perth agus is iarbhall den bhanna píobaireachta Vale of Atholl Grád 1 é Ross. Ó shin, rinne sé camchuairt lena theagascóir nach
maireann Gordon Duncan, sheinn sé i mbanna Ivan Drever ‘Clueless’ agus sheinn sé le Flook! ar na mallaibh. Bhí muid ag obair go dian an díséad ionach seo a mhealladh go dtí An Droichead le tamall agus tá áthas orainn a gcéad taibhiú sa Lárionad a fhógairt.

An Droichead and Moving On Music present Ross Ainslie & Jarlath Henderson in concert.

Arguably the most dynamic double-act on today’s Celtic scene, the Scottish/Irish piping duo of Ross Ainslie and Jarlath Henderson have won huge plaudits for their 2008 debut album, Partners in Crime, as well as for their brilliantly incendiary live
performances.
..Ross Ainslie & Jarlath Henderson.. first started playing together back in 2003 at the William Kennedy Piping Festival, and have since joined forces to create a pipe sound that pushes the boundaries of what both instruments can achieve together
Jarlath.. is a three time All-Ireland Champion’ Uilleann Piper and is still only 19 years of age. In December 2003 he became the first Irish musician to win the prestigious BBC ‘Young Folk Musician Of The Year’, a major national award. …. ..Ross.. hails
from Perth and is a former member of the Grade 1 Vale of Atholl pipe band. He has since toured with his tutor the late Gordon Duncan and was involved in Ivan Drever’s band ‘Clueless’ before recently playing with Flook!
We have been working hard to bring these fantastic musicians to An Droichead for some time now and are delighted to announce their debut appearance at the Lárionad.

ENGLISH

Like many other culture and arts providers at grassroots level An Droichead provides an invaluable service to south and east Belfast and a gateway to the arts for our community. Through continued support from The Arts Council and other sector funders we are able to provide access to top quality traditional arts, be that through our traditional music concert programme, dance, craft and language workshops and our many free workshops.

We believe the proposed level of cuts to Arts funding will have a serious and adverse impact at community level. Please take 5 minutes of your time to sign the ACNI petition against these proposed cuts. Thank you for your support.
