Féile An Droichead 09
Féile An Droichead 09, Irish Language
“Bhí Lúcháir orm nuair a d’iarr muintir An Droichead orm tacú le féile úr s’acu mar phátrún. Is scoth-eagraíocht iad agus tá mé lán-sásta bheith luaite lena n-obair.
I was delighted when An Droichead asked me to be the patron of their first Irish culture and traditional music féile. It’s no exaggeration to say that the work the organisation has done to date is awesome, and I really commend the work that community based organisations like them do.
The programme of events for the 09 Féile looks excellent. An Droichead totally encompasses what I believe true Irish culture to be; inclusion, tradition and excitement.
I think it could be the most exciting cultural festival to hit Belfast in years, and I want to wish them all the best in this first go at it. Guím an t-ádh libh a chairde, seo chugainn an craic…!”
Des Bishop (Féile patron)
Forbhreathnú
Cé go bhfuil siad ar na hionaid cheoil thraidisiúnta is fearr i mBéal Feirste cheana féin, tá An Droichead go fóill ag iarraidh leibhéil úra a bhaint amach, agus tá sé beartaithe acu an chéad fhéile cheoil agus chultúir Cheiltigh i ndeisceart Bhéal Feirste a reáchtáil ag deireadh mí Lúnasa.
Dar le pátrún na Féile, Des Bishop, is í seo an fhéile chultúir is suntasaí agus is spreagúla le bheith ann i mBéal Feirste le blianta.
Beidh ‘Féile An Droichead 2009’ ar siúl ón 27ú – 30ú mí Lúnasa. Cuirfidh sí le bliain mhór d’imeachtaí ag An Droichead mar a bhfaca muid seónna le ceoltóirí a bhfuil clú idirnáisiúnta orthu cosúil le Julie Fowlis, Cran, At First Light, agus Liam Ó Maonlai ó Hothouse Flowers.
Beidh clár le healaíontóirí den scoth ag an fhéile, leis an Chorcaíoch féin, John Spillane, buíon cheoil Alan Kelly, an sárcheoltóir Albanach Griogáir Labhruidh, Bríd Harper, agus Dermot Byrne ó Altan ina measc siúd.
Líonfar le beocht roinnt ionad ar fud an bhóthair Ormeau nuair a líonfar le fuaimeanna ceoil thraidisiúnta agus ceol an domhain iad. Beidh taispeántais agus cainteanna ann a bheidh faisnéiseach, oideachasúil, agus spreagúil.
Beidh ceardlanna a bhainfidh ceoltóirí óga an-sult astu, mar shampla na máistir-ranganna ceoil agus na ceardlanna amhránaíochta agus damhsa.
Is cinnte go mbeidh na sluaite ann ag an Chéilí, le súp a bhaint as oíche chraic agus cheoil; agus is cinnte fós go mbainfear súp as blasanna an domhain ag an aonach bia ilchultúrtha.
Déanfaidh féile úr-nua na cathrach freastal ar mhianta gach duine agus cuirfear fáilte mhór Fheirsteach roimh chách. Mar sin de, bí linn ag Féile An Droichead 09, agus tchífidh tú féin cad chuige a bhfuil siad anois ag caint fán Bhóthar Ormeau mar an Cheathrú Chultúir neamhoifigiúil.
Ba bhreá linn ár mbuíochas a thabhairt do ACNI agus Foras na Gaeilge as a dtacaíocht leanúnach.

Festival Overview
Not content with being one of Belfast’s premier traditional music venues, the multi-award winning An Droichead is breaking new ground at the end of August when it hosts south Belfast’s first ever Celtic music and cultural festival.
Festival patron, comedian Des Bishop, described it as the most exciting cultural festival to hit Belfast in years.
‘Féile an Droichead 2009’ will run from 27th – 30th August and builds on An Droichead’s sensational year of events which has seen musical performances from internationally renowned artists such as Julie Fowlis, Cran, At First Light, and Liam Ó Maonlai from Hothouse Flowers.
The festival will serve up a programme of top acts including Corks own John Spillane, The Alan Kelly band, leading Scottish performer Griogáir Labhruidh, Bríd Harper, and Dermot Byrne from Altan to name but a few.
Venues along the Ormeau Road and beyond will be alive with the sounds of traditional Irish and world music. Exhibitions and talks will inform, educate and inspire. Singing and dance workshops and music master-classes will be a must for any budding musician, and the Céilí is sure to pack in the crowds with an evening of craic agus ceol. And as if that wasn’t enough you can enjoy the tastes of the world at the multi-cultural food faire.
The City’s newest festival will cater for all tastes and guarantees a true Belfast welcome to everyone. So join Féile An Droichead 09, and see why the Ormeau Road has become known as Belfast’s unofficial Cultural Quarter.
Thanks to all our funders and sponsors, especially ACNI and Foras na Gaeilge for their continued support.
