Ionad/Venue: An Droichead
Beirt laochra den tradisiún, tá clú agus cáil bainte amach ag Tríona agus ag Maighread Ní Dhomhnaill
ar fud an domhain le Skara Brae agus The Bothy Band.
Maighread and Tríona Ní Dhomhnaill are among the most highly regarded traditional singers in Ireland. Born in Kells, Co. Meath they’ve both been domiciled in Dublin for many years although Triona spent some time living in North Carolina and then Oregon in the 1980’s following the demise of the seminal traditional music group the Bothy Band with whom she recorded four albums.
Maighread and Tríona gleaned much of their repertoire from their aunt Neillí Ni Dhomhnaill who was from Rannafast. The sisters formed the hugely influential 'Skara Brae' in the early 1970’s along with their brother Mícheál Ó Domhnaill and the Derry born guitarist and singer Daithí Sproule.
The close harmonies and adventurous musical arrangement that Skara Brae pioneered were to impact enormously on the development of
Irish folk music.
